Safari World Bangkok: Marine Park

Safari World

Part 1: The Marine Park

On the way over we were kinda hesitant going to a zoo being a group of 8 adults but as it turned out Safari World is not just a zoo for the children. It doesn't just have animals for display to take pictures with. It is a leisure park for the whole family to enjoy. My cousins and I were in our early twenties and together with their mom and one uncle we enjoyed exploring the zoo tremendously like giddy little children.

Safari World consist of the Marine Park and Safari Park that have separate entrance fees. I highly recommend going to both parks because they offer two very different experience. For 1100 THB you get to explore both parks but if you have to choose only the Marine Park is more enjoyable.

The Marine Park houses a variety of exotic land, water and air animals in their natural habitat. This park also boasts of world class and very entertaining animal and stunt shows. It is impossible to watch all the shows in one day because some of them are scheduled at the same time but you can't go wrong with any of them.

The first show we watched was the Orangutan Boxing Show. The host of the show is speaking in Thai but regardless, the humorous antics of the orangutans is funny in any language. This show proved the orangutan's superior intelligence compared to other animals. The human's furry distant cousins were a complete joy to watch. They appreciate the audience's response and interact well with their highly skilled trainers. It's a must see attraction in the Marine Park and my hands down favorite.

Equally amazing is the Sea Lion show that features the mischievous sea lions that leap, twirl and glide to the water gracefully. Unlike the dolphins that performed mostly in the water, the sea lions can stand and perform tricks on the platform.

We took a break from the animals and watched the exhilarating Cowboy stunt show. The amazing set and explosive special effects brought to life the lawless territory of the Wild Wild West where cowboys and bandits engage in action packed gun fights and knock downs.

After watching the cowboy show we ate lunch at one of the buffet restaurants that serves Asian and Western cuisine. The food was ordinary and coupled with the hundreds of sweaty tourists the place looked like a big school cafeteria that stinks everywhere.

There was another show that starts immediately after lunch. It is the most popular attraction at the Marine Park. The venue was packed to the brim with the crowd anticipating the very entertaining dolphins and beluga whales. Watching these clever sea animals dance, jump through hoops and somersault in mid air is definitely a one of a kind experience. It is for most visitors the highlight of their whole Marine Park experience.

We ended our Marine Park tour after the Dolphin and Whale show. Overall the Marine Park experience was great, all the attractions were well executed and performed. It was absolutely well worth every penny. If you like the Singapore Zoo and Ocean Park in Hongkong you will definitely like this place. I will go out on a limb and say that the Safari World's 2010 version of the animal shows are still better than Singapore Zoo's current lackluster shows.
